Look, I’m not saying that I’m always right or that you’re always right…
…but let’s face it, if you’re going to add people from your job knowing full well that they are without a religion than at least try not to be dumb enough to start poking at them with a stick. We do bite back (at least some of us) and we bite back with ferocity.
Want to start making fun of the fact that we haven’t found intelligent life yet? Would you care to explain the Spanish Inquisition or Jamestown? I don’t bother your god, so leave my science alone? Science has given us the medicine to cure otherwise horrific diseases (we can’t cure all of them but we try!) Science has shown us that each one of us is genetically unique. Science can explain why I fall down not up. Science has given many the ability to live relatively normal lives even if they are para- or quadriplegic.
Now I ask what has religion done for me? Scared me into believing that my sexuality is wrong. Religion has forced me to turn to other institutions so that I may accept the fate that was given to me. “Its God’s Will!” is not an explanation in my book. This is not to say that religion has never done anything good, but I do not deem it okay when one religion stomps on another simply because they aren’t monotheistic. That’s like telling a poly amorous man that he can no longer have multiple women and must now be monogamous-brutal!
In short, please coworker don’t make arguments regarding religion better than science. I’d appreciate it if your religi-dick doesn’t touch my children until they are old enough to decide for themselves.
