I decided to have this done, not simply because I’ve always wanted a heart tattoo/chest piece, but because that very morning (the day before Valentine’s Day) I broke up with my boyfriend. I felt my heart break and my chest was so tight I was having trouble breathing. I have fought with severe manic depression for years and knew that this break up would be just the trigger to cause a nose dive of my soul into a hopeless sorrow where I might need hospitalization to ever climb out of.

…But then I decided that I needed this visual reminder that just because my heart in on the inside, doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt or suffer or ache… it is the part of me that only I am responsible for loving.
